The Canonical Five

These posters were a self-initiated project exploring the recreation of victorian theatre posters using the subject of Jack the Ripper and the murders of his victims Polly Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes, and Mary Jane Kelly – also referred to as the Canonical Five. To create those posters a combination of letterpressed type elements and digital fonts were used. Lettering was pressed in the type workshop of Cambridge School of Art using authentic victorian presses. Contents are referencing original newspaper and police records from the investigations.
